Inner City Arts

Los Angeles, CA, 2009

This seven building school campus is located near Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles.  Serving as the art classrooms for local inner city schools, the program is composed of performance and visual arts spaces including a 300 seat theater as well as a library and administrative offices.  The necessity for a perimeter fortified from the streetscape suggested a interior courtyard defining separate programs yet spatially woven into a single three dimensional composition.  Built in three phases, this final and largest phase is the realization of the four buildings on the east side of the campus.
