Nature's Theater

This winning competition entry for a rural amphitheater balances theaterical experience of site with dramatic stage performance. The sequence from parking area, through the site, under the stage into the amphitheater sets the stage. The proscenium frames the peformance while stage lights are illuminated or a view to the forest beyond when the house lights are on. The seating area is covered by a complexly facetted translucent polycarbonate roof that blurs the distinction between building and the natural tree canopy, blending the amphitheater into the surronding forest.
